Microsofts first Windows 10 laptop, the Surface Book had a detachable display that allowed it to be used as a standalone tablet. Now it looks like its sucessor will get a major design change.
A new report for Digitimes suggest that Microsoft will adopt a traditional clam-shell design for the Surface Book 2, ditching its predecessors 2-in-1 design. The laptop has already entered mass production and could be unveiled by the end of the month or April.
The report further says that Surface Book 2 will sport a magnesium-aluminum chassis and 13.5-inch display, and the base model will start at $1,000 due to the rumored design, which is lower compared to Surface Book 2s $1,499 price tag. The company is said to be lowering the price of the new laptop to attract more users.
The source also claims that Microsoft shipped 500,000 units Surface Book laptops last year, and the laptop had limited demand due to high price and the detachable design, creating conflict with the Surface Pro line.
With the new changes, Digitimes predicts that the demand for Surface Book will rise, and the number are expected to reach up to 1.5 million units in 2017.
Its worth mentioning that Digitimes has a mixed track record when it comes to with predictions, however, the publication had accurately reported about Microsofts Surface Studio AIO PC last year.
